Scope

The Estimating Engineer I is responsible for supporting the Preconstruction and Estimating team by managing document control, performing trade scoping and subcontractor analysis, and contributing to reporting and technology-driven estimating processes. This role ensures accurate and timely preparation of estimates and supports cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update document logs including package logs, RFI logs, and drawing logs.
  • Perform document reconciliation, slip-sheeting, and updates to Box, Bidmail, and PlanGrid/Procore.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, addenda, RFIs, and bulletins for cost implications.
  • Input scope of work and quantities for assigned trades, with a focus on Divisions 10–13.
  • Ensure subcontractor coverage through outreach, follow-ups, and proposal analysis.
  • Identify discrepancies, inclusions, and exclusions in subcontractor bids.

Essential Skills

Technical

  • Proficiency with On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam, Box, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with CSI divisions and estimating templates.
  • Ability to interpret construction documents and identify cost impacts.

Business and Management

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • Understanding of estimating workflows and subcontractor coordination.

Interpersonal

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Customer service mindset with a collaborative approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil Engineer, or related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in estimating, preconstruction, or related construction roles.
  • Proficiency in OST, Bluebeam, Box, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Procore, PlanGrid, and Core Services Ticketing System is a plus.
